Frequently Asked Questions
Like most Louisiana boys, each began hunting and fishing at an early age, and each has a deep love and appreciation of this unique environment. All of them are expert airboat captains Certified by the U.S. Coast Guard.
It all depends on what your goal is. Airboats depart at 9:45 AM, 12:00 noon, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM (seasonal) & 6:00 PM (seasonal). If you want to see the swamp at the prettiest time of day, we recommend the 9:45 AM tour or the early evening tour. The early morning and evening light has warmer tones than midday. Also, these times don’t have the harsh, full sun or full shade contrast of midday, so it’s much better for photography.
Wintertime and early spring can bring temps from 30 degrees (rare) to 75 degrees, with an average high temp of about 64 degrees, so our winter and spring airboat tours can be quite pleasant indeed. If it’s sunny and the temperatures reach into the high 60’s, alligators will come out on logs to sun. And remember the bumper sticker that says, “The worst day fishing beats the best day at work!”? We believe it should read, “The worst day in the swamp is better than the best day behind a desk!” View our online video to see the excitement on our Airboat Swamp Tour page.
Again, there’s no bad time to go. Our favorite times are April, late October and early November. Winter can be a great because the summer grass that is typically six feet tall is now only inches high. This means you’ll see more nutria and deer, and the migratory birds such as waterfowl and the bald eagles. Alligators are tough to find when temps drop below 70 degrees, no matter what time of year, but they can be found throughout the winter on warmer days. Plus, there is so much more to the tour than just seeing alligators, that any time of year is a great time to visit. Just take a look the wintertime comments in our guestbook, and you’ll see that all of these folks had a whale of a good time!
Yes, we do! If you are staying at one of the hotels in the Greater New Orleans area, Airboat Adventures will pick you up right in front of your hotel door. Transportation pick up begins 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time. Please be waiting outside your pickup location. Drivers have a short window of time to pick up all guests. We are flexible to some extent, depending on what’s already booked when you call.
Comfortable, casual attire based on weather conditions is recommended. Keep in mind, it is often cooler in a moving airboat.
Our small airboat offers a more intimate tour experience with your guide and is capable of moving faster down some of the narrower canals in the swamp.
Our larger airboat does not feel as crowded and is more suited for larger groups and parties.
Pregnant women, children under the age of 5, or anyone with neck/back injuries are not allowed on airboats. You must also be able to board the airboat without our assistance.
Pets or service animals are not allowed on the airboats. This is due to the noise that is created from the moving airboat. To protect your human ears, hearing protection is provided.
